We commonly associate an ISO file or ISO image with copying of CDs and DVDs. A bit by bit copy of a CD or a DVD is usually called an ISO image file. These ISO files are usually created using CD burning software like Nero which create, edit, and extract CD or DVD image files, then convert the extracted image to an ISO file, easily allowing users to burn an exact copy of the original onto CD or DVD.

We usually burn CDs and DVDs to take a backup of all the data present on our hard drives, so that we can make use of them when we face a data loss situation.
